Date: 2026-06-18 01:14 am (UTC)1.) sweaters!!! estonia is actually home to numerous regional fashion weeks, and they hold them twice a year in spring and autumn. but mihkel loves his sweaters—he shops locally and recycles materials, and he often buys from thrift stores. he also likes to sew, and his adoptive father taught him how to make simple shoals out of wool, which is what women typically wore pre-crusades. mihkel loves to also wear earthy colors, so you’ll often see him wearing browns and dark greens.
2.) his favorite memory is probably in the summer of 1869, when the first national song festival took place. this was also during the ärkamisaeg (age of awakening), which was a time where estonians came together as one and began to accept that they’re estonians no matter who is in charge. this was also where he reunited with jaanika, his daughter, after centuries of distance.
mihkel’s earliest memory is waking up in a damp bog and gazing up at the sky. he used to migrate with different tribes and clans on saaremaa, until he met his adoptive father, who taught mihkel how to hum before teaching him any words. mihkel’s first form of communication was humming, then singing. he learned to speak much later on in his early teen years.
3.) honestly, this is a tough question to answer, since mihkel’s past is deeply routed in estonian history and culture. but if he could change something about himself as a person, it would be he would go back to the 1970’s and apologize to his dearest friend toomas, who died of old age not knowing why mihkel never aged or what mihkel truly was.
4.) if mihkel could answer this question, i think he would say without any shadow of a doubt, rye bread—100% rye bread. mihkel grew up struggling to survive alongside the tribes he traveled with, until he settled down and was taught how to bake. rye bread is a very popular choice of snack and appetizer in most estonian meals, and along with potatoes and different kinds of fish recipes such as hapukapsas-kalasalat (fish salad and sauerkraut), it’s among one of his most personal comforts. fish and soups are a big part of his diet, too. he also prioritizes soup dishes too.
5.) i’ve thought about this once or twice, but i feel like he would collect different species of mushroom. he’s currently studying to become a recognized mycologist, and estonia is home to over seven thousand species, with only about a small portion of which are actually edible. mihkel also collects different fox figurines, and some of them are kitsune which come from his dear friend roka, who visits estonia four times a year. (fun fact, estonia has a sister city that’s the same name as japan’s city—saku city in nagano and saku parish in harju county.
i think that’s it! (i swear any food related topics makes me go all out with recipes lol.) i appreciate the questions by the way! :’D
